Welcome to the health office at Rocky Hill High School. We are very excited to be working with your families as the RHHS School Nurses. We are thrilled to be here to support the health and well-being of all our students. Our primary goal is to ensure a safe, healthy, and productive learning environment for everyone.
The school nurse office is committed to providing essential health services throughout the school day. Our responsibilities include:
* First Aid and Emergency Care: Providing immediate care for injuries and illnesses that occur at school.
* Medication Administration: Safely administering prescribed medications to students during school hours, with proper documentation and parent/guardian consent.
**Medications: If your child requires medication during school hours, please contact us to discuss the necessary procedures and complete the required forms. Medications must be brought to the nurse's office by an adult in their original, pharmacy-labeled containers. Every medication that is brought into school requires a “Medication Authorization” form to be signed by the student’s doctor and parent/guardian. A link to the district health forms page can be found on the left side of this page.
* Health Screenings: Conducting postural screenings as mandated by state regulations. Collection of mandatory 11th grade health assessment and immunizations from providers. Collection of sports physicals (valid for 13 months from date of physical).
* Managing Chronic Conditions: Collaborating with parents, students, and healthcare providers to develop and implement individualized health plans for students with chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, severe allergies).
Our goal for every child is to help them to stay healthy so that they are able to attend school every day. We will do our best to make sure every child feels heard in their complaint, has a quality assessment, and is comfortable in their outcome. We will call home in the following scenarios:
The student needs to be picked up from school
Follow-up at home is required or recommended (ie doctor visit, continued observation at home, etc)
Further communication is needed regarding student Health Office visit
Please note that the above criteria are made with Registered Nurse assessment, observation, and judgement. If a parent would like calls for any nurse visit or in specific situations, they must specifically communicate that to the Health Office. In addition, please remind your student that if they are ill during school hours they should report to the school nurse office. All dismissals related to illness must be done through our office for the health and safety of others and for proper attendance documentation. Leaving school due to illness without following procedure will result in an unexcused absence.
Attendance is a critical part of education. However, as we all know, there are times when a child is injured or too sick to attend school. If you take your child to their physician due to illness or injury, please obtain a note from their doctor, including any restrictions. Please forward this note to the health office. Documentation is an important step in tracking attendance.
Your Partnership is Key!
Effective communication between home and school is crucial for your child's health and safety. Please inform us immediately of any changes in your child's health status, excessive absences, new medications, allergies, or chronic conditions. It is also vital to keep your emergency contact information updated with the school office, as well as with us.
We encourage students to visit the nurse's office if they are not feeling well or have been injured. Our office is a safe and confidential space.
We look forward to a healthy and successful school year! Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Renee Garrahy & Aimee Staggers
